Dave's Dried Peas
High protein snacks are a very common problem for weight loss patients, aka gastric bypass patients, Roux-en-Y, intestinal bypass patients, etc. Foods "labeled" for weight lost patients tend to be higher in price and more difficult to locate. Dried peas , commonly misspelled as dryed peas, are an excellent source of high protein, having 6 grams or protein in 1/4 cup. This means that one pound, volume of 4 1/2 cups, has 108 grams or more of protein. Dried peas are crunchy (most crunchy foods tend to be high in fats or sugars), slightly salted, a green veggie--which is the best kind, they fit into a small zip lock bag for portability, and no refrigeration is required. Other snack foods tend to be high in sugars, fats, or contain a lot of calories.

My wife had a RNY revision from a 1980 gastric bypass for weight loss. That surgery needed revision in mid 2007 due to major issues that were affecting her body. Once the surgery was completed, food then became the problem. She had a hard time swallowing foods. Her intestines had atrophied from the diameter of your thumb to the diameter of your little finger, making it difficult to pass anything through these small intestines. I had to find a source of protein, as she hated protein shakes. Then, I found these, DRIED PEAS. She eats them all day long. She could chew them up into small pieces very easily, that passed through her system with very little discomfort. I know that more than half of the protein she get is from these dried peas, and she passed her lab work several months ago. I was especially worried about protein levels, but they came out normal. So, DRIED PEAS DO PROVIDE GOOD PROTEIN.
But searching around the Internet, the pricing is quite high for dried peas. I've seen prices of $3.69 for 4.5 oz, $8.69 for 9.5 oz, $11.95 a pound etc, PLUS SHIPPING costs. I'm dealing with a local nutritional store wholesaler, and I am able to offer them for $5 a pound, plus shipping. PayPal will be the payment needed. Credit cards or postal money orders also accepted, as explained below. Up to 7 one pound bags can be placed in a standard flat rate mailing box to save on shipment costs. Get together with a friend or two and order a box of 7 bags to save on shipping !! Save even more money on shipping with the new flat rate box that can can hold up to 12 one pound bags of dried peas.
This is a photo of a one pound bag of
peas. The pen is placed by a common store ziplock baggy of dried peas to show
the volume of dried peas in one pound. This bag has 4 1/2 cups of dried peas, contained in a
zipper locked bag, the same way it would be shipped. Dave's Dried Peas are
packed in re-closable 8" x 10" bags (larger than bag shown), 2 mil thick, and meet USDA and FDA
requirements for food items.
Health facts from www.whfoods.com about dried peas:
So Dried Peas not only taste good, but they are also very healthy for you.
This is a quick photo of me before and after RNY surgery. I'm a
strong advocate for healthy ways of living, even if they require surgery. At my
pre op weight of 345, life was way too difficult. I'm currently 189 pounds
and I've always strived to find good sources of protein for maximum health after
surgery. Dried peas is one of those great finds I though I would share with
everyone. Each time I tell people at local weigh loss support meetings, people
are curious on where to find them. Now it's easy, just come to this web site.
